CAT WELLNESS EXAMS

How Cat Wellness Exams Can Contribute to Feline Health

What is a cat wellness exam?

A cat wellness exam is a thorough assessment of your cat's overall health. It goes beyond addressing specific issues, focusing on preventive care to catch potential health concerns early.

What are some signs my cat might not be feeling well?

Some common signs your cat might not be feeling well include:

  • Changes in appetite, such as a sudden loss of interest in food or increased hunger.

  • Alterations in grooming habits, such as excessive licking or a decline in self-grooming.

  • Lethargy or reduced activity, where your cat appears unusually tired or lacks energy.

  • Weight loss or gain, noticeable shifts in your cat's weight that are not related to diet changes.

  • Unusual litter box behaviors, such as difficulty urinating or changes in litter box  frequency.

What are some possible environmental factors that can affect cat wellness?

Various environmental factors can impact your cat's well-being, including diet, living conditions, and exposure to potential hazards. Identifying and addressing these factors contribute to a healthier, happier cat.

FAQ

  • Yes, even seemingly healthy cats benefit from wellness exams. Early detection of potential issues ensures prompt intervention.

  • We'll see kittens shortly after adoption, followed by checkups every three weeks until they're four months old for their vaccine series. At around six months, another examination is scheduled, which is when we typically perform the spay or neuter procedure.

  • The frequency of cat wellness exams varies with age. Kittens are advised to have more frequent checkups, approximately every four weeks, until they reach four months and complete their boosters. As adults, an annual wellness exam is recommended, and once they enter their senior years, around ten years old, we suggest wellness exams every six months.
