Dog Boarding—Your Little One’s Home Away from Home

Is it stressful for a dog to be boarded?

At Steveston Veterinary Hospital, we prioritize your dog's comfort and well-being. Talk to one of our veterinarians about how we can help decrease your dog’s stress while staying at a boarding facility. For a list of recommended boarding facilities, please visit our Trusted Partners page.

How do I prepare my dog for first-time boarding?

  • Visit in Advance: Familiarize your dog with the facility by visiting before the boarding period.

  • Bring Comfort Items: Pack your dog's favorite toys, bedding, or a piece of your clothing to provide a sense of familiarity.

  • Update Vaccinations: Ensure your dog's vaccinations are up-to-date to safeguard their health and the health of other boarders.

Is two weeks too long to board my dog?

Not at all! The right kennel should be able to accommodate various boarding durations, including extended stays. Look for facilities designed to provide a comfortable and stimulating environment for dogs, ensuring their well-being during longer periods of boarding.

What dogs are suitable for boarding?

While most dogs adapt well to boarding, those with severe aggression or extreme anxiety may not thrive in a communal kennel setting. Our team can discuss alternative options, such as personalized care or in-home pet sitting, based on your dog's individual needs
