Our Story

The history of Steveston Veterinary Hospital, founded in 1974, is rooted in a deep passion for animals and a love of science. It was exactly this that drove Dr. Robert Galloway into a career in veterinary medicine and inspired him to take over Steveston Veterinary Hospital in 1978.  Dr. Galloway had a special interest in surgery and gained extensive experience in orthopedic and general surgery cases throughout his 40 + year career. As a result Steveston Veterinary Hospital has been renowned for its depth of knowledge in surgical cases and have had clients referred to them from across the country.

Dr. Galloway’s passion for animal wellness and science has been passed onto his daughter Dr. Breanne Galloway who grew up learning the intricacies of animal care throughout her life. After graduating from Veterinary School in Dublin, Dr. Breanne Galloway followed in her father’s footsteps to recently become the owner at Steveston Veterinary Hospital.  She brings the same passion, depth of knowledge and care as she works with clients and their pets throughout their lifespan.

With new modern facilities and an experienced staff, the Galloways, along with highly experienced veterinarians Dr. Teresa Millar and Dr. Margaret Fisher, are thrilled to be able to provide compassionate, professional, quality care to those throughout Greater Vancouver.

Steveston Veterinary Hospital relocated in 2015 from its original location and is now conveniently located in Richmond, BC on the corner of Francis Road and Gilbert Road.

Dr. Robert Galloway, D.V.M

It is with deep sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Dr. Robert Galloway after a brave fight with cancer. Dr. Galloway had passionately served SVH clients from 1974 until July 2018. The Steveston Veterinary Hospital staff will greatly miss his compassion, exemplary skill and knowledge, and genuine kindness and respect.

Dr. Breanne Galloway, B.Sc.Ag., D.V.M.

Dr. Breanne Galloway is the eldest daughter Dr. Robert Galloway and is now the owner of Steveston Veterinary Hospital. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan in 2008 and her Degree in Veterinary Medicine overseas at the University College Dublin in Ireland in 2015. Having always had a passion for animals big and small, she knew that this was absolutely the career for her and is thrilled to finally be living her dream.

She has a Boston Terrier dog named Winston and recently rescued a Staffordshire Terrier named Nuala. She also has a Bengal cat named Petunia.

Dr. Teresa Millar, B.Sc., D.V.M.

Dr. Teresa Millar obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Simon Fraser University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 1988. After graduation, she completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Washington State University. Dr. Millar has spent the last 30 years in small animal practice in the lower mainland. Because of the complicated and ever changing nature of veterinary medicine, she maintains her skills with continuing education courses in various fields. She has a special interest in dentistry, anesthesia, behaviour and internal medicine.

Dr. Millar enjoys gardening, reading and knitting. She likes to spend time with her crazy rescued Goldendoodle "Fluffy" and watching her 2 adorable kitties "Dora" and "Harriet" practice parkour in the living room!

Dr. Margaret Fisher B.Sc., D.V.M.

Dr. Margaret Fisher obtained her Bachelor of Animal Science from the University of British Columbia in 1997 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 2001. After graduation, she worked at the Vancouver Animal Emergency Clinic for 5 years and for the past 13 years, she has worked in general practice throughout the Lower Mainland.

Dr. Fisher recently moved to Steveston and is enjoying her new home near the water, that she shares with her 3 legged cat, Cloutier. In her free time, Dr. Fisher loves to play tennis, swim and practice yoga.

Clinic Staff

Luciene has been on staff at Steveston Veterinary Hospital since 2008 but she was previously a veterinary assistant at a small animal practice in Nova Scotia. Her career in veterinary medicine began when she started volunteering at the SPCA in Dartmouth, NS. She obtained her Veterinary Assistant diploma in 2006 and has taken several continuing education courses through VSPN and Vetmedteam.

She is interested in science, politics, and history and enjoys photography, traveling, and reading in her free time. Her favorite parts of the job are being an advocate for those who can’t ask for help when needed and also learning about the advances and technology involved in veterinary medicine.

Kimberley joined the Steveston Veterinary Hospital team in September 2017. She recently graduated from the Veterinary Technician Assistant program at Granville College in June 2017. She has worked with animals in Vancouver and in Hong Kong before. Her love for animals is what made her join this field. Kimberley is currently taking classes so she can go back to school to pursue her Veterinary Technician Certification.

She currently has taken the clinic cat Poit Dhub home (she seems to be happier with a warm bed to sleep on), and loves every animal at the hospital as her own. In her leisure time, she loves travelling, hiking and trying new foods.

Shannon has worked at Steveston Veterinary Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant since 2014. Previously Shannon did volunteer work with animals.

She has two dogs, a Spaniel mix named Coco and a Miniature Australian Shepherd named Koda. Shannon has also had a number of cats over the years, most of them being semi-feral or strays. Currently she has three cats named Jasper, Loki and Zoey.

In her free time she enjoys reading or hiking with her dogs.

Stefany previously worked as our receptionist before making the transition to vet assistant in 2015 and office manager in 2019. She also volunteers with several animal rescue organizations as a foster.

She owns two German Shorthaired Pointers, Sheldon and Bremen and competes in K9 scent detection, barn hunt, hunt tests, chase abilities tests and dock diving.

In her spare time she enjoys the outdoors, camping and hiking.
